We probably won’t see any AFL teams playing to promote Ovarian Cancer awareness but it’s a topic close to our hearts at the Victorian Women’s Football League. This Sunday we have the Ovarian Cancer awareness round across the VWFL competition. Victorian vice captain Lou Wotton lost her Mum Cath to Ovarian cancer and we are raising awareness & funds for the Cath Wotton fund.

Cath Wotton the mother of our Victorian vice captain Lou (Louise) lost her fight with Ovarian cancer back in 2007 and this Sunday Lou will be leading her team the East Burwood Devils against the Darebin Falcons to play for the Catherine Wotton Cup.

The Catherine Wotton Ovarian Cancer Nursing Scholarship Fund has been established by Cath’s three daughters, Amy, Jo and Lou, and her nursing colleagues in recognition of Cath’s significant, 37 year contribution to nursing and her courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Women suffering from gynaecological cancer and ovarian cancer especially, are particularly vulnerable and in need of highly skilled nursing care, support and advocacy. The scholarship will provide registered nurses the opportunity to be specifically trained in the area of gynaecological and ovarian cancers. The aim of this scholarship is to address the current shortage of gynaecological nurses, so that women are supported through their cancer journey, whilst also raising awareness of gynaecological cancers amongst women in the community.

VU St Albans crushing win

VU St Albans had crushing win over Scoresby in Round 10 in the Premier league.  Gemma Jones and Georgia Harris had 5 goals each in what was a lopsided game from the start.  The final scores were 179 to 7.  And in a feat that must be hard when you have scores like this one, Kaz Paxman was in the best for VU St Albans.
